Position Overview:
The Community Resource Navigator plays a vital role in the day-to-day operations of United Way’s Financial Health Center, which provides walk-in support to individuals and families facing financial challenges. This role serves as the welcoming first point of contact and supports clients by facilitating benefits screening, navigating public assistance tools, and connecting them with essential resources.
This part-time team member will also receive training to serve as a backup Financial Counselor, allowing for flexible coverage and long-term skill growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Greet walk-in clients and assist with intake forms, resource screening, and appointment scheduling.
Provide basic benefits screening (e.g., Medicaid, SNAP, utility assistance).
Assist clients in using laptops and online tools for benefit applications and job searches.
Guide clients through the "Benefits Kitchen" process and refer to the Financial Health Associate for deeper planning support.
Coordinate referrals through United Way 211 and maintain accurate case notes.
Keep flyers, job boards, and resource materials up to date.
Provide administrative support for client tracking, reporting, and follow-ups.
Participate in regular training, including certification as a backup financial counselor.
Help maintain a welcoming, professional, and confidential environment for all clients.
Perform additional duties as needed in support of the Financial Health Center.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; some college or associate degree preferred.
Previous experience in customer service, community outreach, or administrative support preferred.
Strong communication skills and a compassionate, people-first attitude.
Comfortable using Microsoft Office and online applications; ability to assist others in using technology.
Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
Willingness to learn and grow into a backup financial counselor role.
Knowledge of public benefits programs or nonprofit services is a plus.
Valid driver’s license and insured vehicle required.
Work Environment & Schedule:
This is a part-time, in-office position
Light lifting (up to 25 pounds) and regular computer use required.
Some weekend or evening availability may be requested for community events or trainings.
