POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Financial Health Associate plays a key role in advancing our Financial Stability initiatives, including Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) coordination, The Heirship Project coordination, financial counseling, benefits access, and community resource navigation. This individual will provide direct support to individuals and families seeking to build stronger financial futures through immediate help and proactive planning. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, organized, solutions-focused, and eager to empower others.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve as primary point of contact for Financial Health Center walk-ins and appointments.
  • Coordinate Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) operations, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Lead efforts for The Heirship Project, offering support for protecting property, wills and deeds.
  • Provide financial coaching services after obtaining certification (training provided).
  • Conduct benefit screenings and connect individuals to Medicaid, SNAP, and local support programs.
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions and program outcomes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (211, Volunteer United, Marketing, Resource Development) to align services.
  • Facilitate or participate in Community Conversations to gather insight on emerging needs.
  • Represent United Way of NELA at community events and outreach initiatives.
  • Assist with program reporting and continuous improvement strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, business, public administration, human services, or a related field
  • OR
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in financial stability, benefits navigation, or community services.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Knowledge of basic financial management, public benefits programs, and community resources preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Valid driver’s license and insured vehicle required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This role requires frequent sitting, use of hands, talking, and hearing. Occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds may be necessary. Visual acuity for working with computers and printed materials is required. Some evening and weekend work may be necessary during peak periods.
