After nearly 20 years of dedicated service, Dr. Matthew Thornton has announced his decision to step down as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Center for Children & Families, effective June 30, 2025. Matt has served as the CEO since 2018, guiding the organization through significant growth and expansion in providing advocacy, counseling, education, and prevention services to children and families. Under his leadership, The Center has expanded its impact beyond its headquarters in Monroe to include service locations in Shreveport, West Monroe, Farmerville, Crowley, LA, and Clinton, MS. Through its programs, The Center annually serves approximately 5,000 children and families with a dedicated team of nearly 300 staff.
"Dr. Thornton’s servant-leadership has made a lasting impact not only for The Center but also for the thousands of families we have served during his tenure. We are deeply grateful for his legacy and contribution, which has positioned The Center to continue offering hope for many years to come,” said Dr. Margot Eason, President of the Board of Directors for The Center for Children & Families.
To ensure continuity of services and organizational stability, the Board of Directors has appointed Stalanda Butcher and Chris Ramsey as co-interim CEOs. Together, they will provide leadership and direction during this period of change.
Stalanda Butcher serves as the Chief Advocacy Officer at The Center for Children & Families, where she oversees all advocacy and support programs. With 22 years of leadership service, Stalanda’s extensive experience in early childhood education, health, nonprofit management, and program development provides essential competence and strength during this time of transition.
Chris Ramsey is the Chief Operating Officer, leading strategic planning, community engagement, and organizational development. Chris has served for 20 years at The Center with extensive experience in program management and strategic leadership. His deep knowledge of The Center’s history and operations will ensure a seamless transition.
"We are confident in Stalanda and Chris’s ability to lead us through this period of change, and we remain dedicated to the growth and success of The Center," said Dr. Eason.
The Board of Directors has also appointed a Transition Committee to lead a nationwide search for the next CEO. “The Board is seeking a transformational leader who will continue to grow The Center’s operational excellence, service provision to families, and expand partnerships,” said Stewart Mondry, Transition Committee Chairperson. “The search will be comprehensive, engaging a diverse pool of candidates who will be evaluated based on their experience, leadership skills, and alignment with The Center’s mission.” The Transition Committee hopes to select the next CEO by the fall of 2025.
